Callie's strumming slowed to a stop as she played the wrong chord, her fingers trailing off the strings. Her smile broke like glass, shattered into many pieces. Only eleven of them could get in? Eleven of all these people, numbering at least several dozen? She cracked a single, weak laugh. This couldn't be. It wasn't fair. Everyone deserved to be saved, not just those with useful skills. But if they flooded the bunker, they would all die anyway, so this is how it had to be. Her smile, frozen and forced, was only still there because the sheer shock of the revelation had prevented any new expression from reaching her face.

"Eh!?" The oppossum's eye twitched, a look of incredulity on her face and the sound of exasperation in her voice. Some of the people may have appeared shocked or saddened, and one even looked dissonantly serene, but Winter was finding it hard to keep her blood from boiling. She tried to remain calm at the news they'd just received. Tried, but failed horribly, as the injustice of their predicament angered her greatly, causing her to finally rise to her feet. "This guy lied to us!" She shouted, loud enough for all to hear, balling her hands into fists. "He mislead us, having us believe this was a safe haven. Are we going to take this kind of treatment, and let him choose which of us get to live and which of us get to die?" She then paced angrily towards the camera and addressed the person inside the bunker. "You can't just do this to us! Do you think we couldn't have handled the truth? Is that it?" What troubled her the most, however, was that she could have remained at home, to die with her family, her people, instead of out here in the woods amongst strangers.

World NPC Chatter - About 5 hours after the end of the world
The crowd murmured and the voice levels started to rise as Noah and Winter put in their two cents.
"Bullshit, skyscraper, I saw a couple mushroom clouds scattered over Albany. I was coming up here to camp! I also heard that Buffalo and Rochester were hit. If that's true, the bunker guy is right, even if he's an asshole for leading us all here! There's probably radiation here already but the initial safety will run out REAL soon!" someone yelled over the ruckus, directing his frustration at Noah and stepping closer to him.
"Nah, fuck this, I have a basement. I don't need no fuckin' bunker to be safe. This'll be over in a few weeks," another person put in.
"This is a NUCLEAR WAR. Don't take that lightly!" someone responded to the last person and muttered something about 'fucking politicians' under her breath.
Pepper sighed, with the mic turned off of course, and covered her mouth with a hand for a moment and closing her eyes. After a pause she knew she had to get back to it so she pressed the mic button down again.
"Hey! HEY! I'm afraid the camper there is right. There are likely detonations in western New York and probably in Toronto, Chicago, and Detroit as well. That means that in addition to closer detonations which raise the ambient radiation in the area, we have more incoming," Pepper said and paused so everyone could take that in. "I called you all here without telling you the limits because I needed as many people as possible here. How many people would have come if I said only a dozen would be able to enter? Probably not many. It's psychology, but the reality is that you can either enter or leave. Anyone causing any violence will be warned once before the bunker is closed to everyone. If you don't want to stay out here, you better keep the peace," she articulated and leaned back in the seat, her tail twitching anxiously. She wiped her brow and sighed again.

Wayne visibly shuddered when he heard the news that only 12 people would be allowed in. He shook his head slowly and closed his eyes, holding back tears. He knew that he would likely get in as he was a doctor but he was concerned for everyone else here. And this was just a small fraction of the whole state... and the whole country that was mostly going to just die out here in the radiation. When people started to argue, he shook his head again but more quickly and forcefully. He wanted to say something but couldn't find it in him to do so. He had taken emergency courses, elective and required, on the effects of radiation on the body and especially acute radiation sickness. None of it was good. He wasn't sure who to believe about where the bombs had hit, but he also knew that someone had to lead here to keep chaos from erupting in the area. Wayne stood up next to Winter near the camera and the entrance and took a deep breath.
"I'm a s-surgical resident a-at the CVPH Medical Centre in P-plattsburgh," he spoke up the best he could as he let the deep breath out. "A-are you sure you c... can't fit more people?" he asked the camera.

Noah looked at the one who started yelling at him, with a low sigh he takes a deep breath
"You want to argue fallout then put this in your brain. Each missile that arms and deploys its payload can deploy up to five city killer class warheads, it's not one missile per city like in the damn TV shows. So one missile downed two missiles down ... fuck there could have been numerous missiles taken out, but it only means we have a little more time that's it! As for the next wave............. really you think I want to be out here to find out if there is going to be a next wave coming!" he walks over to the camper and looks down at him "So........shut......the......fuck.....up!"

World NPC Chatter
The man who was heckling Noah settles down.
"Sorry. It's... it's a tough time, you know," he mutters as he turns and walks to the other side of the crowd from the large horse. The crowd largely remained silent, now, as they seemed to await their fate at the hands of the unseen person in the bunker.
Pepper shook her head briefly and rubbed her temples with her fingers and thumb on one hand before pressing the button again.
"I'm sorry, sir, but... yes. Alright, please stand in front of the door. I'd like to let everyone know that this is only the first door, so trying to rush it the moment that someone steps in would be pointless. And even if there was only the one door, we'll all die if you all shove yourselves in here and start shooting. So please think twice," Pepper said and navigated to a another program on her computer. She held her breath and clicked on a button within the GUI labeled "Unlock and Open Front Door." It slid open mechanically, the hissing of hydraulics audible, and revealed a short hallway with another similar door on the end. There were no windows or anything of note on the walls, floor, or ceiling of the hallway aside from a couple more cameras and speakers.

Wayne stepped in carefully, checking out the hallway as he entered, turning left and right and up and down anxiously hoping that this wasn't some elaborate torture chamber. Actually, now that the thought occurred to him, he started to get pretty anxious. He forced himself to breathe deeply, though and stepped up to the next large door, tempted to touch the heavy machinery that operated it but electing not to so as not to make the person in the bunker think he was going to tamper with it. He looked back at the crowd, hoping he would spot the group he had come in with again. Hoping that they would get in with him so this wouldn't be the last time he'd see them. Regardless of his emotions, he knew he had some degree of duty to uphold by providing the people who would occupy the bunker with his knowledge of medicine.

Winter was conflicted; a part of her wanted to turn back now and go home, home to her community, her familiar forest, the warm smiling faces of her brothers and sisters. However with her car having run out of gas, using that to get back was out of the question. Tears of regret were stinging at Winter's eyes and she wiped them away in anger or maybe desperation. She also wanted to trust the high horse about them still having time, and didn't see any reason for him to lie to people who were in the same boat as he was. But even if she did still have time, would it just be spent looking for another bunker or basement to hole up and hide in until the radiation blew over? The sad thing was, the survivalist's way was probably better. And despite having lied to them, he deserved a second chance. In the end, he just wanted to live too. In any case, she didn't see a better immediate solution, and resolved in her mind that The Creator must have sent her here for a reason - that this was her purpose, to help out where she could, so that at least some people survived to inherit the earth. The opossum hesitated, but finally spoke up, trying to remain stony-faced. "I'm... I was part of a private security force. Kept out interlopers with illegal drugs and alcohol."

"You can step inside," Pepper held the button down and said to Winter. "We'll need security. No one's perfect," she said, releasing the button again and trying to keep the shake out of her voice. She couldn't help but look out at the crowd. How stressed they were. How much they were suffering. Had she done the wrong thing? Would these people have been better off staying at home? Or at least some of them? She rested her face in her hands and sobbed briefly. She mumbled something as she gazed at the screens and then shook her head. "Please, speak up, anyone," she said, the slightest shake showing through as she spoke to the crowd again through the mic.

Watching Wayne stand up and head towards the bunker door Morgan looked at Amber and Callie, quickly slinging his AR he stood up and grabbed Ambers hand and then Callie's hand and pulled them both up while they were still shocked and lead them to the door. He'd be damned if they were going to sit there and wait for others to move. Even though they only knew each other a short time walking up an old road in the middle of nowhere, there was no way they were losing this moment. As Morgan moved through the crowd he pulled Amber and Callie in closer to keep them close to him as they came up to the bunker and stood in view of the camera. Still clad in his makeshift fallout protective gear and with a AR slung over a shoulder and small pack he looked right at the camera " My names Morgan Hale ..I'm an engine mechanic and fabricator, this is Amber my wife...she's a physical trainer and this is Callie our friend and ...........and assistant." Morgan watched the camera as he caught his breath waiting
Amber was still in shock as Morgan pulled her and Callie up and lead them through the crowd. She couldn't believe after everything they had gone through to get here it still may have been for nothing. When Morgan pulled her and Callie close to weave through the crowd, still in a daze Amber looked at Callie and tried to smile. When they got to the bunker and Morgan was speaking Amber could only look up with a slightly dazed look on her face

Calliope was still sitting there with her vacant smile, not particularly planning on speaking up, when suddenly, her hand was grabbed, and she was pulled along by the male coyote. "Wha? Hey!" So unexpected were his actions, that she barely held on to her guitar, nearly leaving it in the grass beside her bicycle. Where is Morgan taking me? She looked at the crowd around them as he pulled them through it, starting to come to her senses. Catching Amber's almost smile, the spotted skunk beamed back at her. What were they smiling about? She wasn't sure, but she was happy to see that the couple hadn't given up hope. When they got to the bunker's camera, hands still glued together, Callie waited to see what Morgan would do, in the meantime posing with a peace sign and a cute smile. She almost squealed and jumped with giddiness when he called her a friend, but then... her jaw dropped. Her eyes widened as she stared at Morgan. "Wow! I didn't know I was your assistant! Why didn't you tell me?" she exclaimed excitedly. Then it occurred to her. He was lying on her behalf, trying to sneak her in, useful skills or no. And that wasn't very fair to the other people, many of whom could have been more suited, or more deserving, of the spot. She had to make her voice heard. "A-Actually... I am the entertainer! And I know just where I stand," She pulled her hand out of Morgan's, and boldly strummed her guitar. "Another serenader, and another long haired band..."
Today I am your champion I may have won your hearts But I know the game, you'll forget my name And I won't be here in another year If I don't stay on the charts

Pepper couldn't help but laugh, and when Calliope was done with the brief bit of playing there was something of an applause from the crowd. She composed herself again, though, and pressed the button.
"You can all enter. All of your skills will be useful, I suspect, though I hope you understand... Entertainer. As much as I'd like to let you in unconditionally with that performance, if someone with one of the skills listed would otherwise not get a spot I may have to give it to them. I'm sorry," she uttered and turned the mic off again, cursing herself for apologizing. "Please step forward with the other two, you three," she continued. "Another skill that would be useful that I had forgotten to mention: someone who has any knowledge of growing, especially with hydroponics."

Morgan beamed as the three of them were allowed to join Wayne, he then pulled his lead apron hood back then removed the makeshift filter mask off. With a release deep breath, once they entered he reached out and took Callie's hand then pulled both women into a hug and held them for a short moment, it was easy to tell that he was still trembling from everything going on. He looked at Amber and smiled then nuzzled along her muzzle and cheek as he breathed a sigh of relief, then looked at Callie and smiled softly to her "I wasn't going to leave our newest friend behind...I hope you're not mad about the little lie?" he then leaned in towards her and gave her a small forehead to forehead nuzzle. He then looked at Wayne and smiled as he took a deep breath and nodded.
Noah looked at the camera " My name is Noah Burnside, retired Marine combat heavy field mechanic like I said before. I have combat experience in the middle east and overseas with equipment and systems troubleshooting for the past few years I've worked as a contract builder, electrition, and part-time plumber..." The walking wall known as Noah stands there looking at the camera as if he could see Pepper sitting at the control desk and was making eye contact with her at that moment.

Pepper chuckled and waved him in as if he really could see her, more to joke with herself than anything else, and then pressed the button again.
"Alright, Mr. Burnside. Just don't give me too much trouble when you get inside," she said and laughed over the microphone, thinking that the horse sounded like chief engineer material. She realized that it might have been inappropriate for her to laugh given the situation. Maybe she had just been too upset for too long and her mind just wasn't having it anymore, she thought. Or maybe Calliope had cheered her up with music.
World NPC Actions and Description
Several other people speak up and are invited into the hallway to the bunker until the number reaches twelve. Pepper holds her breath as people realize that the number had been reached, but most of the people outside are just frozen. Seemingly unable to move at all. They knew that their doom was coming. One or two of them started rallying people together, speaking whispers of where to go. Perhaps inspired by the horse's words of hope, perhaps not. Pepper pressed the command to close the outer door and suddenly the space between it and the bunker became rather stuffy, though there was ventilation. Pepper hit another command with a shaking finger and the inner door opened to reveal a staircase downward. At the end of that was an area that looked like a kitchen and a living room combined. On a table was a pile of clothing of varying sizes and styles, enough to clothe at least a couple dozen people even if they were picky with their choices. It would be reminiscent of a second-hand shop but more tidy. On another smaller table were some snacks and bottles of water. It was the floor above where Pepper sat.
As Pepper opened the door, she rushed up the stairs with her AR and stood on the other side of the table. The gun wasn't pointed up, but she held it ready in her hands, finger off the trigger but ready to fire if it was needed. She really hoped that it wouldn't be. Finally, she waited for everyone to come down the stairs and see her and the tables. She took a deep breath in and out and clicked the safety off on the gun.

Noah watched as the last few were invited in and he saw the looks on the others remaining outside, he reached down and quickly removed his map satchel from his belt and tossed it out towards someone who was still watching
"THERE ARE MAPS AND CHARTS OF THE NEAREST MILITARY SAFE PLACES !"
he shouted out in hopes they could use them. As the outer door closed he took a deep breath and turned towards the inner door, as it opened and revealed a staircase down. Noah moved forward and looked down the stairs
"May as well see what this ark looks like since we're here,"
he said as he went down the flight of stairs ducking his head at times to avoid anything that was close to his ears. Step by step the massive frame of the six-foot-eight-inch tall wall of a male comes into full face to face view, once clear of the staircase Noah stands up fully as best he can and moves up to the table. Out of old habits, Noah stands front and center of the table and then stands at the parade rest and looking across the table, then down at Pepper he raised a brow at the sight of the armed salamander. Noah takes that first moment to size up their host and not able to really tell if the one standing across from him is male or female he remains silent and nods in acknowledgment of them.
