Kade walked along a path of stone and sand that was made by a river that dried out many years before. His uncovered feet paws occasionally went under the sand. It felt good. The sand wasn't particularly warm or cold. In fact, he was in the temperate belt of the world, Mir. He was used to this climate, which most people from the more equatorial parts of the world said was cold. In fact, he had been in temperatures that would probably make their fingers freeze off. He laughed at the morbid thought and tossed it aside, along with a rock he had picked up from the river-bed.
"The shopkeep said that the cave was about a kilometre down along the mountain. I'm bad with this stuff. I never know which way around a mountain to go," Kade said. "But they say it's the journey and not just the destination, Da?" Kade finished. He smiled, holding his bow in his right handle gently, ready to tense up on the slightest unexpected movement in the trees or rock formations nearby. He looked to the left at another Shorvelian.

The other Shorvelian, who went by the name of Darya, continued to look down at the ground beneath her paws as she walked alongside Kade. "I just want to see if... if that artifact is there," she replied to him in a soft, quiet voice. Truthfully, she wanted to get there as soon as possible. She had heard that the cave outside of Shadowdell contained some ancient treasures, and perhaps the one thing she was looking for would be there, untouched for centuries, waiting for her to come along and savor it. Her eyes looked glassy and faraway as she dreamed about it. She hadn't really explained to her travel companion what this artifact was, or what she wanted it for, but she wasn't one for talking much. Ever since she came back to her motherland, she mostly kept to herself, minding her own business; she seemed distant and unsociable. Kade was the only one she's really talked to since her return, and even those conversations consisted of only short sentences spoken in a detached monotone.

Meeya looked a map over several times before finally deciding which way to go.
Currently, she was mapping the area, figuring out the route that was best to take, silently noting what paths led where, the pattern of trees in the forest and what was wise to avoid. And now, here she was, in a landscape that managed to be both familiar and completely alien. Before her was the entrance to a cave not marked on any other map she's ever seen. She felt a shiver run down her spine at the thought of what may lurk inside. Shaking the thoughts from her head, she drew several lines on the map, almost having it pieced together.
Then, she'd travel to Shadowdell, a small town further through the woods as she'd been told, before the sun set. She made quick work of the maps, folding them up and packing them away in her over-the-shoulder bag, then stood.

Deep inside the cave, several feet from a dim-lit exit, Gazkip chips away at a small section of the tunnels wall with a small makeshift pickaxe. Stopping occasionally to readjust the shoddy handle and brush away the rocks and dust. "We're obviously not the first to try this," Gazkip says aloud, hoping his companion would sense the doubt in his tone "Whoever was here before prolly took all to be had and left."
The young goblin sets down his tool, retrieving a small gourd to drink from while he rests for a bit, listening for the others but only hearing the wind whistling through the caves. His only company at the moment seemed to be one of the many skeletons lying nearby, it's legs partially crushed by a big rock as a hint to it's demise. Oddly enough, it didn't look very human. It then came to Gazkip's attention that maybe picking at the walls supporting the cave might not be the best idea.
Getting up, Gaz decides to inspect the corpse to see if it left anything that hadn't been already looted. He kneels by the rock, noticing just behind it a dusty hip satchel. Fumbling the flap open while he leans over it reveals what looks to be... broken glass and some paper old enough to fall apart at the touch! "Sucks... Not even a bit of coin."

Kade looked at Dash worriedly. She had been so quiet since she had returned to Shorvelia and seen Kade again. She used to be at least slightly more talkative before, but now her mind seemed entirely some place else. Kade looked up from his internal conflict to see a cave entrance in the side of the mountain.
"Dash! Yeb tvoyu mat, it's the cave, I think this is the one!" he yelled and jumped up in the air briefly. He ran up to the entrance on all fours and sniffed around at it. His affect became serious again and he sniffed more. "I smell someone else, not sure of the species..."
