Julie didn't leave lunch early, but she hurried to the music room after the bell rang because she wanted to see if the room had a piano that she'd be allowed to play. She made her way down the hall in a brisk walk and sometimes broke out into a jog when no one was looking. She arrived in the room a bit out of breath and spotted a golden brown piano, which she sat in front of and carefully pulled up the key-cover to. She placed her fingers over some of the keys and noticed some differences from the last time she had played but sighed and proceeded anyway. She began to play the guitar part to Landslide on the piano and her mind drifted away into the music. She hummed to the first two stanzas, not remembering exactly how they want, but then sang her favourite part. "Well I've been afraid of changing 'cause I've built my life around you... but time makes you bolder, children get older, I'm getting older, too. Yes I'm getting older, too," she sang in the perfect pitch and smiled and laughed at the last few words. Funny how life can throw you into ironic places without you even noticing. Julie stretched her arms out and pulled her backpack closer to her, hoping to be able to sit at the piano for class as she covered the keys back up. Suddenly she felt herself wishing that she could play for Lexy. Why was Lexy on her mind so much, now? It had only been the first day but she was thinking about her so much already.

Robert stood in the doorway to the music class and remained silent as he watched Julie play the piano and sing. Out of habit he started fingering the bass notes for the song she was singing as he listened. He made no move or sound til she came to a pause or ending note. He then gave a few soft claps as he entered the room. " You have an amazing voice . " he said as he walked in up to the piano. "Names Robert and I'm soo glad to have heard you sing, it really made my day." he offers his hand to her

As the lunch hour came to a close, Mr Walters, the Music teacher, casually passed his fellow faculty in the lounge with a friendly wave. He uttered their names in greeting--Mathue... Kara...--then stepped out into the corridor, where students were gradually returning from the cafeteria. The fennec fox beamed at every face that looked up to meet his, offering friendly nods, and the occasional comment whenever he met a familiar face. Eventually though, he reached his haven. The place where music thrived and creativity knew no limits. As he stepped into the classroom, he took a deep breath and sighed loudly and contently. No students had arrived yet, so Walters sat down at his desk in front of a multi-level stage that had rows of chairs for his students to sit in front of a music-sheet stand.
While he waited for his first class of the year to slowly fill the room, the teacher went over the worksheets he had prepared for day one. There would only be about thirty minutes of class time to work with, but that was more than enough time to assign an instrument to each of his students. What had him so excited though, was finding out which musical tool his charges picked. One could tell a lot about someone's personality based on that singular choice, and every year he was always thrilled by the results. He had no doubts this year would be the same. And he ended up becoming so impatient, that before a single soul had arrived, he stood from his desk, worksheets in hand and began to move along each row, placing a few sheets of paper on each stand, humming jovially as he worked.
He'd gotten halfway through the stack of paper in his arms when the very first student appeared. The bell rang to signal the end of lunch, just as the young feline appeared, and the instant Walters spotted her, the fennec fox perked up and smiled warmly. He didn't even get a chance to make himself known before the musically inclined girl made a beeline for the piano positioned to the right of his desk, and proceeded to play a familiar song. Walters chuckled softly and resumed handing out the worksheets until another face appeared in the open doorway to the classroom. By then, he'd finished and moved into the back room where all of the instruments resided. He quickly perused the checklist of items he'd signed out, all the while listening to the young girl singing openly and boldly, without a care in the world. It was deeply cathartic, and he loved the sound of her voice. When he re-emerged through a second entrance that placed him at the front of the class, however, he noticed the student from earlier had entered the room and was standing next to the piano.
"Well, hello there! You must be eager to start, my good lad. I like that. Class wont begin for another ten minutes, but you can take a seat anywhere you like for now, young man," he said in greeting, crossing the front of the room to peer over the grand-piano's open lid and address the girl hiding behind it. "I must agree, though. You do have a lovely voice. Perhaps you'd consider a vocal role in the coming ensemble." He chuckled as he spotted Julie's backpack hugging her hip. "Unless of course you'd prefer playing the piano."

"I-I... uh... oh. Thanks... both of you. I, uh, I like piano and singing but... well I'm sure you gathered already by the way I'm talking that I'm a bit shy. I just try to drown the world out when I sing or play and forget that people are around. Also, my name is Julie. Nice to meet you, Robert," Julie explained and rubbed the back of her neck anxiously. "Should I go to one of the seats or would it be okay if I stayed here?" she asked and smiled nervously.

Robert smiled and nodded to her, she was cute and her voice was amazing. more then anything was her voice "Nice to meet you Julie....I always get lost in the moment when I play....its just a great way to let go of the day and let goOOOooo......!" Robert jumps a little when Mr Walters makes himself known and turned to face the teacher and nodded "Yes sir.....I tend to get lost getting from class to class my first day at a new school...lucky for me I heard Julie singing and I followed the amazing voice to here." he looked back to Julie " Can you sing and play everyday before class? So I can find my way?" he gave her a little smile and a wink before taking a desk closest to the piano "I'd play with you but I don't have my bass with me. and I've never been good on playing the desk." he smirks and does a rather bad drum roll on the desk

"I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I, I've built my life around you~!" A male voice - though a rather higher-pitched one, at least with this singing voice, soon joined in. The bearer of the voice -the blue-haired Marsupial from homeroom - walked into the room, picking up where Julie had left off. "But time makes you bolder, Children get older - I'm getting older, too. Oh I'm getting older, too." He struts further into the room, a smile on his face as he continued. "So take this love, take it down~! Oh if you climb a moun-"
"BAAA-AAA-AAAH!"
Kaien stumbles a bit, covering his mouth as he nearly burst into laughter from the mocking goat bleating from behind him. He turned to look over his shoulder, seeing the rough-looking raccoon from earlier walking in - his eyes crossed outwards as he let out another bleat. Obviously a jab at the original performer's voice. "...Well, I guess that's one way to interpret the song." Kaien says, brushing off the interruption and giggling as he looked back again, wondering if the meerkats managed to get lost on their way here.
"Seriously, though, Stevie Nicks? Then again, I doubt there's anything in here worth playing a decent song too..." Alex trailed off and started to mutter, bottling up the shock from his encounter outdoors, turning it into venom to try and settle his mind. He kept his hands in his hoodie's pockets to try and hide the adrenaline-fueled shaking, the black fabric of it also hiding a wet spot where he'd rinsed something out of it. "Bet the closest thing we have to a decent instrument is a grandpa guitar..." He grumbles, looking over in the direction of the instruments to see if they had even an acoustic guitar. Not that he could play guitar; it was more a matter of principle than anything.

Kenny was right behind Kaien, since they did walk to music class together, after all, while Eddy went to check which class he had next. He ardently hoped for his friend to be in music with him, more so for the artistic potential he saw in him than anything else. If there was a subject he could be good at without needing Kenny's help, this would be it. He admired both Julie's and then Kaien's singing until it was interrupted by a loud bleating, which made the meerkat flinch and shrink back behind the door. He wasn't as amused by it as Kaien apparently was. "Very funny," he said flatly and went to take a seat, one near the front of the class this time. He wondered if he would get to choose an instrument, and hoped for either a flute or a clarinet, nothing that would stand out too much.

Miri came scurrying down the hall to music class. She could hear the other students' echoing voices up ahead, singing the lyrics to a song. She loved music, but she hoped dearly that no one would make her sing. Slipping into the classroom, she kept her head down as she bee-lined to one of her favorite spots, as far in the back as possibles. She was already thinking about what instruments she wanted to play. She loved the sound of the cello but feared that it might be too big for her small arms and hands. She might just have to settle for something more her size, like a flute.
Max walked into the music classroom and immediately felt some weight lift off their shoulders. Music was one of the few things that could help drown out intrusive thoughts. And the school day was almost over, so they thought they could ride it out. They slumped into a chair, stretched out their toes, and let out a deep sigh.

The energetic squirrel practically burst through the door, a loud kazoo buzz announcing her presence. "Your musical genius has arrived!" Immediately she begins buzzing something out on her kazoo, probably her theme music or something (and sounding awfully similar to something from the Alvin and the Chipmunks song), prancing into the room and dropping into the seat nearest the largest instrument she could find. "So when do I get my tuba?!" She's practically bouncing in her seat.

Julie practically scowled at Alex's rudeness but had smiled at Robert's comment and Kaien's contribution to the song. She looked to Casey as she burst through the door and found herself laughing.
"Hi, Casey," she said to her and leaned back on the piano bench a bit.

Mr Walters had just opened his mouth to answer Julie's question when he was swiftly interrupted by the milling crowd of students that began to pour into the room one after another. Though the fennec fox was still wearing a warm welcoming smile, he secretly observed each of their individual personalities. Since he was certain the feline would seek to play the piano she was seated at, he couldn't help wondering what instruments his other students might fancy. Roberts' comment implied he preferred the drums, which seemed to suit the wolf's demeanor. Next in line for his studious gaze was a bubbly thylacine, followed by meerkat. The first boy had picked up the song where Julie stopped, and as he gave himself into the music, Walters suspected a role as lead singer might be perfect for him; especially when the raccoon butted in with his rude bleating. Kaien didn't even bat at eye, and laughed instead. His friend didn't find it so funny, and to be fair, the teacher didn't either.
The fennec fox's smile drooped a little as he eyed the ring-tailed teenager. The boy was so thin he almost looked emaciated, and what parts of his body were exposed showed signs of self-inflicted wounds. His attitude left much to be desired as well, but after he made his muttering comments, Walters was inclined to assume Alex was a fan of the sleeker electric guitars. If that was the case, he doubted the scowling student would be disappointed with the selection he'd be providing. Walters was pleasantly surprised to see Kenny inevitably find a spot in the woodwind section of the class. It was either a fluke, or the boy wanted to played a clarinet. Regardless, his mental ensemble was already beginning to come together. The next two students to appear were a mouse girl and an androgynous civet. Both of them took seats in the line-up of chairs that suggested indecisiveness, but in Miriam's case, he suspected it was due to shyness as well. She'd tucked herself into the corner, right where the heavier instruments like the tuba or cello usually resided. But she seemed much too tiny and frail for either one.
As for the civet, Walters would have to ask directly. Nothing about Max's outward appearance or behavior gave the fennec fox any hint as to what instrument they desired. And it didn't help that they'd chosen to sit dead center of the class. Maybe they didn't care? There were to occasional wild cards in a group, he supposed. Students who were happy playing any manner of music-making device. At the very least he didn't have to ponder the next student's instrument of choice. The loud and disruptive squirrel made it pretty clear what she wanted to play; and though he respected her enthusiasm, he had to wonder if maybe he should assign a quieter instrument to her instead. One she couldn't turn into a fart joke or interrupt the class with.
Once the bulk of his students had arrived, Mr Walters cleared his throat authoritatively, to get their attention. "Welcome, everyone! I hope you've been enjoying your first day of high-school thus far. Those of you whom are new here, that is. The rest, I'm confident, are already aware of just how amazing this particular class is. Now, I'd ask you all to take a seat, please. We've not a long day today, and I'd like to get to know you all so that we might assign you an instrument before the end of class." With big, sweeping gestures, the excited fennec fox snatched up his attendance list from the desk, ready to begin rattling off names, so he could match them to faces.
Even as the students milled about the room, finding their seats, he called names one by one, addressing concerns along the way: "Kenny? Mm... Robert? Good, good. Julie? Oh--no, you can stay where you are, dear; that piano suits you, I think. Ahem--Alex? ...Alex? Ah, there you are. Kaien. Hah-yes, I see you, there. And Miriam?" He wasn't surprised to discover she was the little mouse in the corner, so he didn't press her when he failed to hear her reply amidst the other students settling into the chairs. "Max?" he called next, only to find the civet respond. Did that make them a boy? Or was it short for Maxine? The full name written on the paper didn't help him determine the answer. "Casey--?" He flinched when the exuberant reply came, and held up a hand in mock defense. "We'll talk about that tuba later, I promise."
After finishing the remainder of his list, Mr Walters set the clipboard aside and with a pleased sigh, leaned and partially sat on the front of his desk as he eyed his new students. "Well, now that that is out of the way, does anyone have any questions about this class?"

Dodging and weaving his way around groups of students in the halls as he follows where he heard that lovely piano coming from, Edwin eventually stumbles to an abrupt halt just past the music room door before he casually dips in fixing his composure with a bit of a nervous glance around the room. It had already stopped by the time he had gotten there but served as a cool way to find his class. Seems he had just missed the roll call though. Thankfully this was the first day and this sort of thing was to be expected. His eyes lit up a bit as he saw familiar faces. Julie, the one who must've been playing the piano, Robert already workin' his charm nearby, their new friend Kaien, that sketchy raccoon guy "wonder if he smokes weed", that supercute spunky squirrel girl ...aaand Kenny! right in the front. Damn. Guess it's his turn to choose. He was totally stoked that they had another class together anyways, one that he probably wasn't going to struggle as much with unless he got stuck playing something he didn't use. This kat was lucky enough to have his own drum set at home he played just for fun, or sometimes tormenting the neighbors. He gave a toothy grin to his buddy and a quick raise of his hand before he hastily slinked over sliding his backpack off to the ground beside him while he took a seat next to Kenny, doing his best not to interrupt the teacher though not really announcing his presence there either. He didn't like drawing more attention than his hair did itself on most occasions, which probably didn't help there.
"Duuude~," he spoke in a hushed jivvy tone smiling to Kendall "can't believe we got 'nother class together! I was gettin' worried for a moment there... did you uhh- pick an instrument yet?" he meekly glanced back up at the teacher then around the rest of the students there. Some had already gone over to where the instruments were. He'd probably better get over too if he wanted his precious. "Please tell me they have drums here" he blurted out in a flat tone, blinking for a bit in surprise of himself. He practically said it while he just thought it as if it just came out of him. A bit embarrassing but he just rolled with it hoping it hadn't already been chosen. He wanted to get some real jams going if he was gonna be in music.

Robert's eyes quickly went to the door as Kaien's entered the class picking up where Julie's was in the song. His ears went back a little at Alex's mocking goat noise, then watching him walk in and finding a seat. Then Kenny entering shortly followed by Miri then Max. Roberts ears went back at the loud kazoo buzz that hit the room as Casey entered the room with her own flare-n-style. He couldn't help but shiver at the kazoo sound. Hearing his name called Robert looked to Mr Walters with perked ears and seeing that the teacher was taking roll he settled back. Looking back at Julie he smirked " Soo besides playing the piano and a amazing singing voice, do you play any other musical instruments?" he asked with a slight whisper as he watched her but then his keen ears shifted back towards the door as Edwin slipped into the room and then making the Duuude comment. Robert smiled ever so slightly as he commented to himself "And the day one late guy."

"What? It's what Stevie Nicks sounds like." Alex states bluntly in return to the dirty looks he got, barely even glancing back at the class. His eyes widened a bit as he did indeed find guitars. Real guitars, too. Sadly, those were far beyond his talents. Talents which he was sure no one would appreciate. As he mulled over these thoughts, the thoughts about what just happened outside, and the other things in his head, he started to just sort of...drift off.
Until he was forcibly reconnected with reality by Casey's entrance, the raccoon flinching and snapping his gaze to her. He stared with a scowl, but...his gaze lingered longer, gradually softening a bit.
...then he closes his eyes and shakes his head, looking at the teacher. The one who looked like an absolute dork in Alex's eyes. Suspenders? Really? "Yeah, yeah, I'm here." He says in borderline annoyance, moving to sit near the back - a seat empty between him and the squirrel, his closer to the door, where he preferred it.
"And I do. On a scale from Winger to Bieber, how much is the crap we're going to be doing going to suck?" Seems someone wasn't afraid to let their opinions be known.
---
Kaien honestly felt a little disappointed now. Sure, Julie made it there first, and she was on the piano - but it felt like her part in the singing completely overshadowed his attempt to actually finish the song. He holds his tongue and take a breath, trying to push it out of his mind as he went to sit by Kenny, opposite of Eddy. "Hey again." He says with a small smile and wave - though he quickly turned his attention to the teacher. "Here, sir." With that blue hair in the front row, he was easy to pick out - even next to the meerkats that possessed a similar likeness.
"And here I thought people liked sucking." He jabs at Alex's question. "Though I am curious about just how in-depth this class is going to be, to be honest."
